Secret Cinema will launch the new space in Greenwich by the end of the year.

Lights, camera, Secret Cinema. Famous for bringing movies to life – literally – with spectacular sets, actors and live music, the company has built a loyal following. Now, it has unveiled plans to open a permanent venue at Greenwich Peninsula, scheduled to open before the end of the year.

Secret Cinema has popped up all over London, transforming unexpected spaces into cinematic playgrounds. Founded by Fabien Riggall in 2007, it set out to revolutionise the traditional cinema experience by combining screenings with immersive live performances in secret locations. The tagline is “be part of something bigger”.

The productions have spanned everything from Blade Runner to Star Wars, and over the years, it has hosted sold-out events, often with attendances exceeding 100,000. The team are also behind Lost, which opened at the Odeon Covent Garden on Shaftesbury Avenue. Now, it aims to reach a wider audience and create a space loved by locals and international visitors alike.

Full details of the new venue are still under wraps, but we do know it will be a purpose-built space. Even its name has yet to be revealed. It is expected to open with a brand-new production, too.

In the meantime, if you can’t wait, you’ll be able to catch the return of Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical. Running from 22 July to 13 September, it takes place at Battersea Park. The previous production proved a huge success and is now back, hoping to create the same magical moments for moviegoers. Audiences are encouraged to fully engage with the experience, from singing along to dressing up.
