Chef Brad Carter and Martin Priestnall are behind the concept.

St George’s Church in Mayfair, London is set to welcome a new restaurant. Chef Brad Carter and Martin Priestnall are behind Undercroft, which will be located in the crypt of the church. Set to open on 2 June, it brings together art, design, music and food.

Undercroft aims to be more than just a restaurant. Open for lunch and dinner, the space will be able to accommodate up to 107 diners. The menu will use British produce and revive classic dishes. Dishes include BBQ Aged Duck with Offal’d Oats, Sea Tripe and Seaweed Soup and Wild Garlic Chicken Toast. Desserts include Bread Pudding with Beauvale and Cotswold Sherry, and Strawberry and Woodruff Layer Cake. Plus, the bar will offer an extensive drinks list, which includes Champagnes, cocktails and fine wines, which can be paired with the dishes.

Brad started his career as a kitchen porter at his local pub. He studied culinary arts at University College Birmingham. In 2010, he opened Carter’s of Moseley in Birmingham, which went on to win a MICHELIN Star.

Brad explains: “We’ve always been keen to make the move to London and spent years searching for the right place to open and the Undercroft at St George’s Church couldn’t be more perfect. I can’t wait to get stuck in and create a menu that reflects the history, character and magic of this incredible building”

Martin adds: “From the minute I set foot in the Undercroft, I knew there was something special about the space. The look, feel of the space is extraordinary, and Brad and I feel privileged to be custodians of somewhere with such a rich history. We don’t want to just offer diners a restaurant, Undercroft is going to be a stage for all creatives, be it in music, design or food, we will evolve and move with the talent that comes through the door.”
