Opening on 21 January, Claridge’s Bakery will spotlight the craft of British baking, led by celebrated baker Richard Hart.
There is a sweet new reason to swing by Mayfair this month. Claridge's Bakery is set to open on 21 January, bringing a dedicated bakery and coffee stop to one of London’s most iconic hotels. Designed as an ode to the craft and history of British baking, the new opening will focus on timeless favourites done properly, with the kind of detail and care you would expect from an institution like Claridge’s.
At the helm of Claridge's Bakery is Richard Hart, appointed Executive Baker and Creative Director. Hart is widely respected in the baking world, with an international track record that spans some of the industry’s most influential kitchens and ovens. He previously co-founded Copenhagen bakery Hart Bageri with René Redzepi of Noma, and also spent seven years running San Francisco’s beloved Tartine. Now, he is bringing that expertise to London, with a menu built around comfort, nostalgia and exceptional technique.
Claridge’s Bakery will champion classic British baked goods, spanning savoury bites, sweet treats, and breads worth taking home. The savoury line-up includes Marmite cheese straws, Hampshire pork scotch eggs, quiches, sandwiches and what the hotel calls “the ultimate Claridge’s sausage roll”. On the sweeter side, you will find Bakewell tarts, lardy cakes, malt loaves and the Claridge’s take on French Fancies. Bread lovers can look forward to bloomers, granary loaves and Hart’s famed sourdough, all served fresh from the ovens every morning.
The bakery will be located at the back of the hotel on Brook’s Mews, sitting alongside the existing ArtSpace Cafe, and will be open to hotel guests, locals and visitors alike. It is positioned as an easy, everyday luxury, whether you are grabbing breakfast, picking up a pastry for later, or taking home a loaf while exploring the neighbourhood.
About the opening, Richard Hart said: “I am excited and honoured to be the Executive Baker and Creative Director at Claridge’s Bakery. My goal is to celebrate timeless British baked favourites in one of the most notable British institutions. Bread and baked goods are an everyday staple that brings people together and I can’t wait to share my take on it with Londoners and visitors to the capital.”
