The site will include a fitness suite, pool and sauna.
London is set to welcome a new bathhouse at Kings Hall Leisure Centre. Located in Clapton, the bathhouse was originally known as Hackney Public Baths. The venue is undergoing a £71 million makeover – work will begin later this year and it will reopen in 2028.
The original bathhouse dates back to the Victorian period in the 1890s. The changes have been approved by Hackney Council, and the plans were developed by FaulknerBrowns Architects. The design will ensure that the heritage is safeguarded, all while creating a modern leisure centre.

Kings Hall Leisure Centre’s facilities will include a refurbished pool, and a new teaching pool with a moveable floor. The upgraded centre will also include a new sauna, steam room and changing facilities. Plus, there will also be a fitness suite and a two-court sports hall.
Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney, explained: “Over generations, thousands of people have learnt to swim or use the gym at Kings Hall, and it has been difficult to see such a beautiful building deteriorate as it has aged.

“Despite challenging financial times, it is right that we’re investing to bring the leisure centre back to its full glory – protecting a historic building for future generations, but more importantly providing modern leisure facilities that our communities deserve in a part of Hackney that is currently underserved”.
Porchester Centre also recently reopened after a £3 million refurbishment. Located in Bayswater, it is located in a Grade-II listed building. The venue is now home to a 30-metre-long swimming pool, two workout studios, a gym across three levels, and a women’s only gym. The spa includes three Turkish baths, two steam rooms, a sauna and cold showers.
