The 2020 champion will open a seafood spot in the autumn.
Fans of MasterChef: The Professionals will be thrilled to hear that the 2020 winner, Alex Webb, is opening his own restaurant. Set to launch in the autumn, Orion will be located in Wimbledon Village.
Originally from Essex, Alex began his culinary journey at the age of 15 as a pot washer at Square 1 in Great Dunmow, later rising to become Head Chef. He refined his skills at MICHELIN-starred restaurants, working alongside renowned chefs including Heston Blumenthal and Hélène Darroze. His career highlights include a residency at London’s Number One Park Lane Terrace and curating menus for luxury hotels in the Maldives.
Orion takes its name from the constellation and pays tribute to Alex’s late father and grandfather. The restaurant will open in the former Light House site, and will focus on modern British and French cuisine, with a strong seafood offering and a sharing-style concept. Expect a fresh fish counter, daily catch, premium king crab and oysters.
The full menu for Orion has not yet been unveiled. So far, we know that the dishes include Mini Crab Waffles topped with brown crab mayonnaise, crème fraîche, lime, and caviar, and Lobster and Prawn Toast with black sesame and chilli jam.
Desserts are equally inventive. Alex offers a playful take on a Twix. Expect layers of tonka bean shortbread, salted caramel, and dark chocolate, served with crème fraîche ice cream. Plus, there will be soft-serve ice cream and a traditional dessert trolley.
