The menu includes Japanese-inspired sandos – and one for £98.


The humble sandwich is getting an upgrade. Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, has announced that it is opening a luxury sandwich bar. The Sando Bar at The Aubrey specialises in artisanal creations – and it even includes a £98 sandwich.

The Sando Bar prides itself on its carefully curated creations and premium ingredients, which range from shokupan bread to tonkatsu sauce. The concept draws inspiration from Japan and its popular sandwich bars. The menu includes a Chicken Katsu Sando, a Prawn Katsu Sando, and a Soft Shell Crab Katsu Sando.

If you're feeling extravagant, there are options available for under £100. The Aubrey A5 Wagyu Menchi Katsu Sando comes in a charcoal bun with caviar and egg yolk. It costs £95, and only a limited number are created each day. The Aubrey Kagoshima Striploin Wagyu Katsu Sando combines caviar with gold leaf and is priced at £98.

The Sando Bar is located within The Aubrey. Go behind the curtains into a sleek space which boasts emerald countertops, gold touches and dimmed lights. Sit by the bar and watch the mixologists at work, or lounge on the sofas.

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is also home to a range of cafés and restaurants. The restaurants include the FACT Dining Award London-nominated Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, afternoon tea at The Rosebery, and bites and beverages at the Mandarin Bar. Plus, The Aubrey prides itself on its fusion of Japanese flavours and Asian ingredients. The menu includes traditional izakaya dishes and a range of innovative cocktails. 

The Sando Bar in London is open Sunday to Thursday from 5pm to 7pm, and Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 7pm and 11.30pm to 1.30am.
