It's time to celebrate Arabic women. Now in its 10th year, Arab Women Artists Now at Rich Mix showcases local and international talent. Running from 29 February to 30 March, the festival coincides with International Women's Day, and brings together artists, comedians, musicians and more.
Arab Women Artists Now is the UK's only festival dedicated to Arabic women's art. The event includes special commissions, exhibitions, performances and workshops. Plus, there will be opportunities to meet artists.
Fables of the Sea Exhibition runs from 1 to 30 March, and is free to attend. Rehaf Al Batnij spends her time teaching photography in Gaza, and shares Palestinian stories in the exhibition. Cuts Exhibition runs from 1 to 30 March, and is free to attend. Malak Matter has created more than 100 pieces that are in response to the conflict in Gaza.
Special events include Letters Home: Stories of Identity and Belonging on 30 March, which costs £6 to attend. The event is curated by Alice Guthrie, and the panel includes the spoken word artist Amerah Saleh and poet Lisa Luxx. Protest Sounds: Festival Finale takes place on 30 March, and costs £10 to attend. DJ LUMA takes to the decks, and explores protest music from the region, from Palestine to Sudan. Bringing together electronic sounds, it is focused on creating solidarity across the Arab diaspora.
Other events include Sudan in Focus on 2 March, Arab Women Publishers: Diversity and Challenges on 9 March, and Reading Gaza: Nora Parr and Guests on 9 March.
