The new venue will have an alcohol licence and serve creative cocktails

London’s top Thai restaurant, Singburi, has announced its move from Leytonstone to Shoreditch. The original restaurant built a loyal local and international following, and it has now confirmed its opening date. On 19 June, it will open at Unit 7, Montacute Yards, near Shoreditch High Street.

First opened in 1999, Singburi quickly earned rave reviews and numerous awards. The concept takes its name from Sing Buri province in Thailand, known as the "lion city," which lies to the north of Bangkok. The Leytonstone location became famous for its flavourful dishes and hard-to-get reservations. It also operated a bring-your-own-bottle policy.

Now, Singburi is set to make its mark in Shoreditch, just a short walk from the Overground station. Chef Sirichai Kularbwong has partnered with Chef Nick Molyviatis and restaurateur Alex Gkikas. Following the retirement of Sirichai’s parents, he has taken full ownership of the restaurant. The team bring with them impressive culinary credentials: Nick helped launch the acclaimed Oma, while Alex has worked on Catalyst café and the Koffiracha sauce brand.

The team say they aim to distil the essence of the original restaurant while reimagining it for a new chapter. Signature dishes previously included Pad Talay, a seafood stir-fry with sweet basil and chilli; and Yam Samun Phrai, a herb salad with lime leaves, ginger, lemongrass, and sesame. The new menu will include dishes such as Dill and Lemongrass Sausage, Tiger Prawn Southern Curry, Mussels and Wild Ginger Pad Phet, and Smoked Beef Rib Panang Curry.

Chef Nick explained: “At its heart, the menu is an evolution of the Singburi blackboard menu, and a reflection of what we love to eat and cook. Thai food is communal – dishes are served all together, and they should complement each other. Something hot needs something bitter, which needs something sweet, which pulls you back to something sour… and before you know it, your glass is empty again. That’s how we hope you’ll eat here - with rhythm, curiosity and joy.”

Singburi will now serve alcohol – the Leytonstone location did not have a drinks licence, but the Shoreditch location now has one. The new drinks menu will feature a cocktail menu created in collaboration with the founder of Athens’ The Clumsies and Line, Vassilios Kyritsis. Drinks will range from a Clarified Bloody Mary to a Makrut Lime Leaf Gimlet. Plus, there will be 14 wines available by the glass.

Singburi has released images of its new look and feel. The venue boasts an industrial look, featuring grey walls, exposed piping, black stools, wooden seats, and tables. Take your pick from the 19 counter seats and 40 seats around tables. Plus, there is an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs at work.
