The Golden Tooth brings community and cuisine to East London.
London is home to brilliant pubs, from historic institutions to homegrown concepts. Now, the Papi team are set to open The Golden Tooth. Located on Green Lanes in Hackney, it is set to open on 24 April.
Papi closed its doors earlier this year, but it made its mark on the local community. Now, the team are creating The Golden Tooth, which will take over the former Leconfield. Chef Matthew Scott and sommelier Charlie Carr aim to transform the historic space.
At The Golden Tooth, the menu will feature inventive dishes. Expect fried ox tongue with Thai-style gooseberry jam, grilled goat chop with ezme salad, Montgomery cheese puffs with tomato ketchup, mussels on toast with house-made lardo, and veal sweetbread saltimbocca. On Sundays, guests can tuck into a roast, while desserts offer a dose of nostalgia, from Arctic roll with sour cherry jelly to steamed quince pudding.

The venue will be split into two spaces: a relaxed pub at the front for drinks and bites, and a 55-cover dining room for those looking to linger longer. If you’re bringing your furry friend, you’ll be pleased to hear that it is dog-friendly. Drinks will include beers, ciders, spirits and wines, plus Guinness on tap and a selection of English wines.
Scott explained: “My journey started in East End pubs hosting kitchen residencies with Hot 4 U, so returning now feels like a full-circle moment – one where we can finally reach our potential. Our food offering is bold, generous and rooted in closed-loop cooking and sustainability, with in-house butchery at the core.
“We want to honour the pub itself – a real public house steeped in history – dog-friendly, Guinness on tap, the best roasts and, most importantly, a place for the community. It will be the same Papi spirit, just sharper, more considered, and with the full autonomy it deserves.”
