The new restaurant will replace the MICHELIN-Starred Taku.
Sushi Amamoto is opening in Mayfair, London. Chef Shogo Amamoto, who runs the original Sushi Amamoto in Taipei, is behind the restaurant. This marks the chef’s first concept in London, and here’s what to expect.
Located on Albemarle Street, the new restaurant looks set to be one of the hottest tables in London. The latest Mayfair outpost has launched in collaboration with restaurateurs Geoff and Lucas Leong, who are also behind Koi in Kensington Palace Gate.
Sushi Amamoto will be a 16-seat omakase restaurant opening in the space formerly home to the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Taku. Taku won a MICHELIN star in 2023 and retained it in the 2026 awards. Taku’s Head Chef, Jongho Park, will remain with the restaurant alongside the Taku team, while Shogo Amamoto takes the helm as Executive Chef Patron. Shogo is recognised for his edomae-style sushi, and sees each piece as a complete dish rather than a simple bite. Plus, the new menu will feature local ingredients and Britain’s finest fish.

Chef Shogo Amamoto has previously worked in Japan and Taiwan, and is now making the move to London. He is behind the original Sushi Amamoto, which was so popular that it had a waiting list of up to one year. The restaurant is run by his protégés and specialises in omakase-style sushi, focusing on ingredients sourced from Fukuoka, Japan.
Sushi Amamoto offers two omakase options: £180 for 17 courses, or £380 for 22 courses. Check in with FACT for the best things to do in London.
