Roll with Kumori – the new restaurant is located on Denman Street.

London is home to exciting restaurants that showcase flavours from across the globe. This April, Kumori is set to open on Denman Street in Soho. The new concept is dedicated to Japanese handrolls, and here’s what you need to know.

Kumori means "cloudy" in Japanese and can also refer to something becoming dim. While the interiors haven’t been officially revealed, sneak peeks of the space under construction have been shared on social media. The restaurant will seat up to 30 guests, and has been designed by the same team behind Kricket Shoreditch. At the heart of the space is the counter, where diners can watch the chefs in action.

The concept has been brought to life by a talented team behind pop-ups and residencies from Marylebone to the Monaco Grand Prix. This will be their first permanent home. Founder Marc Flekei leads the project, alongside Head Chef John Randy De Guzman, formerly of Tobi Masa and with over a decade at Nobu. He is joined by Senior Sushi Chef Alvin Contawe, who has previously worked at Dinings and Roka.

At Kumori, everything is freshly made to order. Handrolls are wrapped in crispy nori, with menu highlights including Baked Crab with toro and torched bone marrow, Spicy Tuna with jalapeño miso, Torched Scallop, and Unagi Foie Gras. There will also be a tempting selection of vegetarian options.
