The private members' club expands with Café 1922.
Private members’ clubs are the epitome of exclusivity – but now The Sloane Club is opening part of its doors to the public for the very first time, thanks to Café 1922. Located in Chelsea, the club is more than 100 years old, and this is your chance to enjoy a taste of the experience without becoming a member.
The club was founded in 1922 by Princess Helena, the fifth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. An annual membership at The Sloane Club typically costs £2,300, but those not looking to spend quite that much will be pleased to hear the latest news.
Café 1922 is a new all-day café, bakery and wine bar. Named after the club’s founding year, it brings a fresh sense of energy to the neighbourhood. Inside, Café 1922 features warm textures and large windows that flood the space with natural light, alongside both indoor and outdoor seating.

By day, Café 1922 is all about coffee, cakes and more, all made in-house. Expect freshly baked pastries and light, seasonal dishes. The Sloane Pain au Suisse is a twist on a classic, filled with béchamel and rich cheeses — though only a limited number are made each day, so it’s worth arriving early.
As the day unfolds, the café transforms into a wine bar, offering a selection of seasonal, low-intervention wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle. There are also plans for special events, from wine tastings to intimate supper clubs.
