The celebrated chef returns to the capital with a Shoreditch opening that celebrates Spain's regions.

London never rests when it comes to restaurants, and Shoreditch is about to welcome another heavyweight. Nieves Barragán Mohacho is set to unveil Legado, a new project that channels the breadth of Spanish cuisine while introducing a contemporary perspective. The name translates to "legacy", which feels apt for a chef whose influence on the city's dining landscape is already well established.

Legado occupies a spot near Singburi at Montacute Yards in Shoreditch, and is designed for both everyday dining and special-occasion seating at the counter. The main room is warm and polished, anchored by natural wood and exposed red brick that deliver a familiar East London texture. Materials at the bar mix tile and timber to create a subtle rhythm across the space, and the overall effect is inviting without losing its sense of occasion.

Alongside the dining room, guests will find Taberna, a separate bar and terrace that leans into relaxed Spanish snacking. Here, the focus is on tapas and pintxos, ideal for a quick plate and a glass, or an extended graze with friends. The drinks list carries a strong Spanish accent, including a clever run of "three-sip serves" that spotlight regional flavours in compact cocktails.

The menu reads like a journey across Spain's coastlines and kitchens. Expect the sweetness of Quisquillas de Cádiz (Cadiz shrimp), the depth of Arroz de Cangrejo (crab rice) and the comfort of bBcalao a la Bilbaína (Bilbao-style cod), among other seasonal plates.

For those unfamiliar, Barragán Mohacho hails from Bilbao and has long championed Spanish cuisine in London. After shaping the city's appetite at Barrafina, she launched Sabor, winning acclaim for cooking rooted in memory and craft. With Legado, she returns to expand that story, bringing together regional tradition and modern London energy.

Legado opens its doors on 28 August.
