The Japanese spot brings the vibes of an East Tokyo izakaya to London.

The latest addition to the East London dining scene is MITSU, a new Japanese restaurant opening in Shoreditch this March. Taking over the space formerly occupied by Nobu, MITSU will bring the atmosphere of an East Tokyo izakaya to the city.

This new dining spot aims to create an oasis in East London. Guests will enter through a Japanese garden, leaving behind the chaos of the city as they step into a world of style and good food. The venue is vast, with high ceilings, bold interiors and an electric atmosphere, carried through by energetic music.

An open robata kitchen will take centre stage, providing an immersive dining experience for MITSU’s guests. The theatre of it all is sure to capture attention throughout the evening.

The menu will be centred on shareable plates, as is traditional in izakaya culture. Dishes will focus on classic techniques and include favourites such as kushikatsu and kamameshi, as well as robata-grilled dishes cooked over Japanese charcoal. Paired with Japanese-inspired drinks, the experience promises to be a refined yet vibrant take on izakaya dining. While the menu details remain under wraps, expectations are high.

The atmosphere at MITSU will be carefully curated, with a strong focus on music to create a dynamic dining experience, from relaxed lunches to late-night meals.

Guests will be transported to Tokyo’s eastern districts to sample traditional izakaya culture. In Japanese, izakaya refers to a casual pub, literally translating as ‘stay-drink-place’, made up of i (stay), saka (sake/alcohol) and ya (shop). These social spaces are popular with colleagues and friends, offering an affordable, cosy setting centred around shared plates.
