Kawan will be located in the heart of Chinatown in London.
Comedian Uncle Roger, whose real name is Nigel Ng, has announced that he will open his first restaurant in the United Kingdom. Located in London's Chinatown, Kawan is set to launch in April 2026, offering a characterful take on Asian cuisine. If you're like to check out the social media star's opening, here's what you need to know.
Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nigel is best known for his comedic alter ego, Uncle Roger. The character draws on familiar Asian stereotypes and pokes fun at old-fashioned attitudes, especially when it comes to food and cooking. Uncle Roger’s humorous critiques of the culinary scene have earned him a global following – as he has more than 10 million followers.
The London opening will not be his first venture into the restaurant world. Nigel already operates six branches of FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger in Malaysia, and he brings his online persona into a real-life dining experience. Now, he is turning his attention to the capital.
A fan of London’s dining scene, Nigel has cited favourites such as Araki, Mei Mei, and Nana Hoshi. His own restaurant, Kawan, will serve dishes inspired by Asian cooking techniques, adapted to suit British tastes. The menu will blend elements from various Asian countries, reflecting both tradition and innovation. Although the full menu has yet to be unveiled, dishes include Beef Wellington and Squid Ink Fish and Chips.

The interiors at Kawan in London are casual and contemporary, featuring framed photographs of Nigel, low-hanging green lights and a bright red logo. Tiled floors, cream-and-white walls, and wooden seating create a relaxed setting. Guests can choose between counter seating and tables.
