Set up by husband-and-wife duo Umar and Nargis, this new Leyton bakery and coffee house serves small-batch brews and Middle East-inspired viennoiserie.

Farha, a new bakery and coffee house with Middle Eastern roots, has opened its doors in Leyton, courtesy of husband-and-wife duo Umar and Nargis. The pair were motivated by a simple frustration: a lack of quality coffee and baked goods in the area. Rather than travel elsewhere, they decided to build what they wanted to see on their own doorstep, transforming a disused garage space into a warm, design-forward spot that nods to the flavours of the Middle East and North Africa.

Open Thursday to Sunday from 9am to 4.30pm, Farha is all about specialty coffee and freshly baked viennoiserie, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Coffee nerds are in safe hands here. Expect carefully sourced beans from some of the world’s most respected producers, including Panama Geishas and special lots from Yemen, alongside Farha’s espresso house blend. Beyond the usual espresso and pour-over options, the drinks menu brings personality with matcha, cardamom brown sugar lattes, and orange blossom mochas.

The pastry offering at Farha in Leyton is equally considered. Farha’s pastry chef has previously worked at heavy hitters including Morny, Toklas, Fortitude, and Cédric Grolet, and the menu reflects that pedigree. Sweet and savoury picks include banana brûlée danish, chai and orange buns, saffron pear danish, roasted aubergine danish with muhammara, and a za’atar torsade with whipped feta, with more seasonal creations expected to rotate in.

It is not just the food and coffee that have been thoughtfully curated. Inside, you will spot tables, upholstery, crockery, and ceramics crafted by London-based artisans, plus bespoke tiles handmade in Morocco, all reinforcing Farha’s intention to honour its regional inspirations while staying rooted in the local community.

Next up at Farha in Leyton, Umar and Nargis plan to expand into full brunch and all-day lunch, with a stronger focus on traditional Middle Eastern dishes. With queues already forming outside, consider this your sign to arrive early and claim first dibs on the day’s bake.
