Running in May 2026, You Are Here aims to celebrate British youth.

Get ready to celebrate a London institution. In 2026, the Southbank Centre will mark a magnificent milestone – 75 years. The venue first opened as part of the legendary Festival of Britain in 1951. To celebrate the anniversary, it will host You Are Here festival. Running from 3 to 4 May, it will be directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle.

The government originally created the Festival of Britain to lift national spirits after the war. The festival gave us the iconic venue we know today – the Southbank Centre. Danny Boyle, theatre pioneer Paulette Randall, fashion designer Gareth Pugh, and artist Carson McColl will create You Are Here.

You Are Here

The weekend promises to be a celebration of British youth culture. Expect performances, immersive art exhibitions, and thousands of participants bringing the space to life in spectacular style.

Danny is best knows for his famous films, from Trainspotting to Slumdog Millionaire. He bought the nation together, and directed the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Danny explains: “The Southbank Centre is for everyone, like the NHS – a dose of culture, like a vitamin injection, it lifts you. Our ambition is for as many people as possible to experience the variety and vitality of this wonderful site, especially those on their first visit.

“In You Are Here, we want to send people on an adventure, through an arts centre that is usually experienced in individual venues, but transform it in people’s minds so they can see the Southbank Centre in a completely original way.”
