Thundercat will play O2 Academy Brixton in London.

London, get ready for an exciting concert. Award-winning artist Thundercat has announced he will be headlining a show at the O2 Academy Brixton in London on 25 March. Fans can also catch him in Manchester on 27 March, and in Bristol on 30 and 31 March. Plus, he will be joined by the DJ Benji B.

Born Stephen Bruner and raised in Los Angeles, United States, Thundercat comes from a musical family. His father, Ronald Bruner Sr., was a drummer for legendary acts including Gladys Knight, the Supremes and the Temptations. His mother, Pam, was a flautist and percussionist.

Drawing on his musical background, he developed his own distinctive sound. He began playing music at a young age and was inspired by bassists including Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke. By the age of 15, while most of us are revising for exams, he had already scored a hit in Germany as a member of the boy band No Curfew.

His music blends jazz, funk, soul and R&B, with a strong improvisational style. In 2011, he released his debut solo album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse. The album featured production by Flying Lotus and was influenced by artists like George Duke. In 2013, he followed up with the critically acclaimed album Apocalypse.

In 2020, Thundercat released his fourth album, It Is What It Is, which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album. The album included a range of acts, including Childish Gambino, Louis Cole, Ty Dolla Sign, and more. Plus, Rolling Stone has ranked him among the greatest bass players of all time.

His standout collaborations are just as important as his solo catalogue and includes “After Last Night” with Silk Sonic and Bootsy Collins, “Cracker Island” with Gorillaz, “Wesley’s Theory” and “These Walls” with Kendrick Lamar, “Walk On By” with Kendrick on his own album, plus the Mac Miller-linked cuts “In The Morning” and “She Knows Too Much.”
