Bayou, real name Adham Bayoumi, grew up between the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Born to Egyptian parents in Jeddah, he later moved to Dubai. After hearing the British rock band Coldplay's song Yellow, he became interested in singing and songwriting. His artistic name is an abbreviation of his father's name, Bayoumi.
In Bayou's music, he blends the Arabic and English languages, as well as various musical influences. His songs often explore ideas of identity, love and cultural connection. In 2019, he released his breakout hit, Moonlight, which notched up more than 1.5 million streams.
One song is called Dodi and Diana, in which he explores the idea of forbidden love. The lyrics include: "When I'm with you, it feels like we're Dodi and Diana; I'm lucky that I have ya, cuz they don't wanna see us together". Plus, over his career, he has collaborated with Djmubarak, Hady Moamer, Motif Alumni and Saint Levant
