The new season at the Young Vic includes an adaptation of Thelma and Louise.
Curtain up. The Young Vic has announced its new season, and it looks set to be an exciting range of work from both established and emerging writers. Here are the shows taking place from September 2026 to July 2027.
At the Young Vic’s Main House and Maria Studio, audiences will be taken on a journey from the American Midwest to outer space, and Nigeria. This is the company’s year of looking outwards, celebrating stories that connect, uplift, and remind audiences of their shared humanity.
The season opens with Thelma and Louise, which runs from 3 September to 24 October 2026. This new musical adaptation of Callie Khouri’s film features music and lyrics by Neko Case. Directed by Trip Cullman, it stars Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker. This is followed by Eurotrash, running from 13 November 2026 to 9 January 2027. Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw star in Colin Teevan’s adaptation of Christian Kracht’s bestselling novel, directed by Walter Meierjohann.
La Distance arrives for a limited run from 22 January to 13 February 2027. Written by Tiago Rodrigues, the work explores the bond between a father and daughter. This is followed by dissent, which takes to the stage from 5 March to 24 April 2027. Gem of the Ocean runs from 14 May to 10 July 2027, with Nadia Fall directing August Wilson’s moving story of resistance and redemption.
The Maria Studio offers an equally exciting programme. Shedinburgh Festival runs from 19 September to 10 October 2026 and brings the spirit and energy of the Edinburgh Fringe into the theatre, with a mix of theatre, comedy, and music from much-loved artists including Inua Ellams, Sara Pascoe, Bryony Kimmings and Josie Long. Girls runs from 22 October to 21 November 2026 and is directed by Ewa Dina. The show explores teenage friendship in Nigeria.
On 27 September 2026, Professor Daisy Fancourt presents Art Cure, a talk exploring the power of the arts. On 14 October 2026, Inua Ellams hosts The Brown Sugar RAP Party, an evening of poetry and music celebrating D’Angelo.
