The programme will feature a remake of an old story and a Shakespeare transfer.
London's theatre lovers, take note: the Royal Shakespeare Company has unveiled its eagerly awaited Winter 2025/26 season at the Barbican, promising two compelling productions that reimagine the classics with fresh creative energy and contemporary flair.
Leading the line-up is Wendy & Peter Pan, a retelling of J.M. Barrie's beloved story, adapted by acclaimed playwright Ella Hickson. This five-week London premiere, running from 21 October to 22 November 2025, is directed by Jonathan Munby and flips the original narrative on its head. In Hickson's version, Wendy takes centre stage in a story that is darker, sharper, and more emotionally resonant than the familiar tale of Neverland. Expect the whimsy of flying children and tick-tocking crocodiles, but with a dose of bite and wit.
The show originally premiered at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2013 and returned to rave reviews in 2015. Now, it makes its long-anticipated debut in London with RSC Associate Artist Toby Stephens stepping into the role of the menacing yet charismatic Captain Hook.
The season continues with a spirited and critically acclaimed production of Twelfth Night. Fresh from its sold-out run in Stratford, this Shakespearean favourite opens at the Barbican on 8 December 2025 and runs through to 17 January 2026, a fitting end to the year and a timely celebration of the festive season.
Directed by Prasanna Puwanarajah, this revival of the Bard's beloved comedy is underscored with original music and songs by British singer-songwriter Matt Maltese, adding an indie-pop twist to Shakespeare's classic themes of love, disguise, and misrule. Returning to their roles are Freema Agyeman as Olivia, Sam West as the ever-misguided Malvolio, and Michael Grady-Hall as the mischievous Feste.
Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans, RSC Co-Artistic Directors, said: "We're so excited to be announcing our second Winter season at the Barbican, and to be bringing two brilliant productions to our London audiences.
Public booking for Wendy & Peter Pan and Twelfth Night opens on 17 July.
