The Jungle Book will run from 13 November 2026 to 6 February 2027.
Theatre lovers, it’s time to go on an adventure. A new adaptation of The Jungle Book is coming to the National Theatre. Located on London’s South Bank, it will run from 13 November to 6 February, and tickets are available now.
The Jungle Book was written in 1894 by Rudyard Kipling. The collection of short stories includes world-famous characters, from Baloo to Shere Khan. The stories were first printed in a magazine and later published in books. In 1967, the Disney adaptation brought the story to a new audience and added music.
The Jungle Book is based on Kipling's original story and has been adapted by Anupama Chandrasekhar. The show will be directed by Indhu Rubasingham, and, if you're wondering how they'll bring the animal kingdom to life, the puppetry will be led by Finn Caldwell and Nick Barnes.
The Jungle Book is set deep in the mangroves of the Sundarbans. Wolves howl, birds soar and tigers roar. At the heart of the wild kingdom is an unlikely child, Mowgli. To protect his friends and the only home he has known, this young hero must first discover who he truly is and where he belongs.
The cast includes Hiran Abeysekera as Mowgli. He has previously starred in Hamlet, The Father and the Assassin, Behind the Beautiful Forevers and War Horse at the Proms. It also stars Sarah Amankwah and Darcy Braimoh.
Indhu Rubasingham recently joined the National Theatre as its Artistic Director. Upcoming shows also include Les Liaisons Dangereuses from 21 March to 6 June, The Misanthrope from 16 June to 1 August, and The Story from 27 August to 24 October.
