Located in Kunstraum, it brings together architecture, fashion and pottery.
London has welcomed artists from around the world. Now, Senses of Yemen has opened at Kunstraum in Old Street. Running until 30 June, it aims to preserve and promote Yemen’s heritage through art.
Mabrouklyn prides itself on showcasing diversity in fashion, and creates collaborations across the world. The collections cover accessories, clothing and books and are available to purchase online. Now, it has established a residency at Kunstraum and aims to foster creative engagement with Yemen through artefacts, materials, and photography.
At Senses of Yemen, visitors can explore immersive experiences centred around the five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. The story is told through architecture, jewellery, fashion and pottery.
Senses of Yemen’s Art and the Architectural Imaginary takes you on a journey through Yemen’s architectural wonders, from the Queen of Sheba’s throne to the mudbrick Manhattan of the Desert. Plus, this will come to life through carefully restored photography, all of which have been made available to the public for the first time.
The exhibition introduces audiences to the country’s rich heritage and hosts a range of events that include storytelling sessions, poetry recitals, talks, workshops, coffee tastings and film screenings.
Kunstraum is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary arts space. The creative hub aims to support artists from Africa, the Caribbean and people of colour. The space has hosted exhibitions, live music, dance, film screenings and spoken word. Plus, there is a production video and photo studio, and equipment to support emerging artists.
