The ARIA-winning oud virtuoso brings a late-night solo set to EFG London Jazz Festival.

Instrumentalist and composer Joseph Tawadros is set to take over the Royal Albert Hall on 14 November, with a late-night performance from 9.30pm to 11pm as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. For one night only, the acclaimed musician will showcase the expressive power of the oud, an instrument that has shaped music and culture across the Middle East for centuries.

Tawadros is renowned for placing tradition in conversation with the contemporary. His solo recitals blend jazz, rock, folk, classical, and bluegrass, expanding the oud’s language and possibilities. Expect a set that reflects both Arab and Western influences, with passages that shift from fast-paced fingerwork to serene, lyrical melodies. The result is a modern portrait of an ancient instrument, performed with precision and feeling.

A true multi-instrumentalist, Tawadros has recorded with more than 50 instruments on his albums, including oud, qanun, saz, violin, ney, Portuguese guitar, electric bass, kalimba and accordion. His studio work and live performances have earned international acclaim, and his trophy cabinet tells the story. He has won the ARIA Award for Best World Music Album seven times, in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. That consistency, coupled with his genre-defying approach, has cemented his status as one of the most respected artists of his generation.

The Royal Albert Hall setting adds extra resonance. As part of the venue’s Late Night Jazz series within the EFG London Jazz Festival, the concert promises an intimate atmosphere.

Tickets to see Joseph Tawadros live in London are on sale now. So, whether you are a long-time admirer of the oud or discovering it for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to experience a master musician shaping tradition for today.
