Liam Young is behind the exhibition In Other Worlds.

Australian filmmaker Liam Young will present his first exhibition at the Barbican Centre. In Other Worlds combines art, film and science fiction to create an immersive experience. Running from 21 May to 6 September 2026, here’s how to get hold of tickets.

In Other Worlds offers a thought-provoking reimagining of our planet and proposes new ideas for tackling global challenges, including the climate crisis. Working across design and fiction, the exhibition invites us to question the choices we make today. The display will include costumes, films, literature and installations.

Young hails from Australia and is a designer, director and BAFTA-nominated producer. His work explores urgent environmental and social questions through film, design and storytelling. His projects have appeared on Channel 4 and at institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Royal Academy of Arts, and the Venice Biennale. His work is also featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Young said: “I am delighted to present my first major UK solo exhibition at the Barbican and feel honoured to be joined by so many world-class collaborators. We have always learned about the future through stories.

In Other Worlds Liam Young

"Imaginary worlds aren’t concerned with predicting the future; instead, they prepare us for it. Within their fictional streets and speculative landscapes, we rehearse new ways of living – new relationships between humans and machines, between cities and the living Earth, between extinction and survival. Through them we glimpse the beliefs that build worlds, and those that end them.”
