The US fringe show comes to London this autumn.
Joe Locke, best known for his breakout role in Netflix’s Heartstopper, is set to take the West End stage this autumn in Clarkston, a critically acclaimed play by American playwright Samuel D. Hunter. The production will run at London’s Trafalgar Theatre from 17 September to 22 November 2025, marking Locke’s first major theatre role since appearing in Sweeney Todd on Broadway.
Clarkston follows the quiet lives of two young men in a fading American town, as they navigate identity, belonging, and the universal longing for connection. Set against the rugged backdrop of the American West, the story is described as a “modern frontier tale” exploring friendship, loss, and the search for meaning in a world that feels increasingly isolating.
Locke will take on the role of Jake, starring opposite rising actor Ruaridh Mollica, with acclaimed stage performer Sophie Melville rounding out the cast. The production marks Locke’s first return to theatre following his recent Marvel debut in the television series Agatha All Along, and comes just ahead of the recently announced Heartstopper movie, due to premiere on Netflix in 2026.
Speaking on his West End debut, Locke shared: “I’m thrilled to be making my West End debut in Clarkston. Samuel D Hunter’s writing is so deeply human and honest that I immediately connected with the play when I read it. I can’t wait to bring this beautiful story to life and share it with audiences in London.”
With themes of identity, self-discovery, and quiet resilience, Clarkston promises a moving, contemporary theatre experience, and a defining stage moment for one of the UK’s most promising young actors.
