Stanley Tucci will direct the world premiere of Springwood.
Hampstead Theatre has unveiled an exciting line-up of productions for its new season. The American actor Stanley Tucci has confirmed that he will direct the world premiere of Springwood. Running from 15 June to 25 July 2026, here’s how to get hold of tickets.
Based on Richard Nelson’s script for the film Hyde Park on Hudson, the play explores a major culture clash. The story follows the meeting between the US President and King George VI. The audience follows the monarch as he embarks on his first royal visit to America on the eve of the Second World War.
Released in 2012, Hyde Park on Hudson starred Bill Murray as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Samuel West as King George VI. Directed by Roger Michell, the film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
Hampstead Theatre’s new season also features the UK premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori’s Kimberley Akimbo. Running from 28 August to 7 November 2026, the Broadway musical was a major Tony Award-winning success. It follows Kimberley, a teenager with a rare genetic condition that causes her to age four times faster than usual.

The programme further includes Aaron Loeb’s tech satire ROI (Return on Investment), which runs from 6 March to 11 April 2026. David Pearson’s Firewing, centred on a celebrated wildlife photographer and his new apprentice, runs from 17 April to 23 May 2026. Plus, there is the European premiere of New York playwright Joshua Harmon’s autobiographical We Had a World, running from 29 May to 4 July 2026.
