Faithfuls and Traitors come together in the new play.

Get ready for cloaks, conspiracies and curtain calls. The Traitors play is heading to the stage, and excitement is already building. The smash-hit BBC television series is being reimagined as a brand-new theatre production, and it is set to open in 2027.

The exact date and venue have yet to be announced, but the show promises to bring all the tension, twists and guilty pleasures of the small screen to a live audience. The production is being created by Studio Lambert, the makers of the TV phenomenon, alongside Neal Street Productions, co-founded by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes.

For the unversed, The Traitors is a reality competition where a group of contestants works together to win a cash prize, but a small number are secretly chosen as “Traitors” tasked with sabotaging the others. The remaining players, known as “Faithfuls”, must complete challenges to build the prize pot while trying to identify and banish the Traitors through tense roundtable votes.

The stage adaptation will tell an entirely new story inspired by the television show’s much-loved format. A group of Faithfuls and a handful of secret Traitors will collide in a thrilling night of live drama. With the famous round-table confrontations brought to the stage, audiences can expect betrayal, suspense and dramatic reveals unfolding in real time.

Studio Lambert chief executive Stephen Lambert said: “It allows us to reimagine the show as a bold and surprising theatrical performance. Taking The Traitors from screen to stage is a hugely exciting next step for this much-loved brand. Faithful fans should expect an intense, joyful night out as we reveal a thrilling new hunting ground for our Traitors.”

The play will be written by John Finnemore, known for Cabin Pressure and Good Omens, and directed by Olivier Award-winner Rob Hastie, whose recent work includes Operation Mincemeat and Standing at the Sky’s Edge.
